October is Active Travel Month
Today is the start of the ‘Active Travel to School Project’, in partnership with South Leicestershire School Sports Partnership. Its aim is to encourage as many children as possible to get active on their commute to school – be it walking, cycling or scooting. This not only benefits your child by keeping them fit and healthy, it can also increase concentration levels in class, helps to develop road safety skills, and the best part – it’s fun!
Each class will record how many pupils have actively travelled to school between 1st October until 31st October. The class with the most active travellers will win a trophy, plus the school with the highest percentage of active travellers throughout October will win an award.
Live too far away to actively travel all the way? Don’t worry, you can still take part by parking a little way from the school (we suggest 10 minutes) and walk, cycle or scoot the rest of the way.
The month has been broken down into suggested themes, encouraging different modes of active travel. These are:
Week 1: Cycle Week
Week 2: Walking Week
Week 3: Half Term. Why not explore your local surroundings, parks and green spaces?
Week 4: Scooter Week
Happy active travels!
